Although Jimi Hendrix is no longer with us, his spirit and music are still ignited all over the world. The estate of Jimi Hendrix and Legacy Records just announced a second set of rarities and deluxe reissues to be released this October.
Earlier this year, Hendrix’s estate released ‘Valleys of Neptune,’ which debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200. This set included dozens of unreleased Hendrix tracks. Throughout 2010, Legacy Records distributed reissues of ‘Are You Experienced?,’ ‘Axis: Bold as Love,’ and ‘Electric Ladyland.’ Legacy Records and the Hendrix Estate provided gaming guitarists with three albums on Rock Band as well. This past month, fans got their dose of Hendrix through four unreleased studio albums and seven concert bootlegs.
The next reissue is set to have the most material yet. The four-disc copy of ‘West Coast Seattle Boy,’ which will feature demos, outtakes, and alternative versions of songs, will be available to the public this fall. ‘West Coast Seattle Boy,’ to fans’ delight, will be packaged with a Bob Smeaton documentary about Hendrix.
On October 19th, Hendrix aficionados can purchase CD or vinyl copies of ‘Live at Woodstock,’ ‘Jimi Hendrix: Blues,’ and ‘Jimi Hendrix: BBC Sessions.’ Additional footage from Hendrix’s earth-shattering Woodstock performance can be seen on ‘Live at Woodstock.’ Audiophiles have the opportunity to purchase the set in a three-disc 12” vinyl edition.
Fans can get their holiday fix of Hendrix with the EP ‘Merry Christmas & A Happy New Year,’ containing Hendrix’s renditions of “Silent Night,” “Little Drummer Boy,” “Three Little Bears,” and “Auld Lang Syne.” This will be available on CD and 7” vinyl sleeve.Gered Mankowitz]
