It’s quite surprising that we haven’t heard the rave about Aussie indie band Birds of Tokyo. Their latest self-titled album debuted at the number one spot on the Australian Independent charts last month and their first hit single, “Plans,” is currently in Australia’s iTunes’ Top 10.
Not convinced to surrender $9.99 for the album just yet?
Birds of Tokyo was named as one of the “Artists to Watch” in 2007 by Rolling Stone. The band was nominated in 2009 for the Channel V Oz Artist of the Year and had three singles in the Hot 100 in 2008.
On their new album, the band penned songs that their audience can relate to – the heart-wrenching emotion that is caused by a broken heart. No need to worry – the album certainly does not excessively carry the whiney and mundane “oh-I-need-someone-to-replace-my-ex” feel. In fact, producer Scott Horscroft, prominent mixer Michaeul Brauer and guitarist/co-producer Adam Spark made sure that Birds of Tokyo possessed the dynamics and tempo to catapult the album into an addicting alternative rock record.
Need another reason to give them a listen? They’re going on tour with the highly-respected and growing rock band Silversun Pickups in September.
