When an artist decides to tour with another, it is often found that the two are either friends or have musically collaborated in the past. However, this is not the case for the Guitar Masters Tour featuring Eric Johnson, Andy McKee, and Peppino D’Agostino. Although D’Agostino has opened up for Johnson, McKee, who was inspired to learn the guitar from Johnson’s hit “Cliffs of Dover,” won’t get to meet Johnson until the tour kicks off on Oct. 1 in Milwaukee, Wis.
Acoustic guitar aficionados will have the opportunity to witness and swoon over the trio’s performances on the 21-date tour during October 2010 and January 2011. The gigs will take place at a variety of venues, ranging from theaters to intimate clubs. Johnson, McKee, and D’Agostino will be sure to deliver a captivating performance filled with chapters of everlasting improvisations and six-string melodies to each location.
“It’s a really nice combination for all of us to come from our different sources and mix it all together,” said Johnson.
Grammy-award winner Johnson is not a stranger to the roads of collaboration. He joined Brad Whitford, Robert Randolph, and Susan Tedeschi on the Experience Hendrix Tour this past March. Hailed by Musician magazine as one of the 100 Greatest Guitars of the 20th Century, Johnson has been nominated for five Grammy awards in his career.
McKee’s performances on YouTube have garnered over 78 million plays, leading him to have one of the Top-Rated Videos of All Time. Playing an astonishing 200 shows a year globally, McKee earned the 2008 Silver Medal for Acoustic Guitar magazine’s finger-style playing.
D’Agostino, a native Italian, jazzes his songs up with a multitude of eclectic influences, ranging from flamenco to the Beatles. Another veteran to collaborations, specifically with Stef Burns and David Tanenbaum, D’Agostino was voted as the Best Acoustic Guitarist in Guitar Player’s 2007 Readers Poll.
