The Strokes have confirmed that the release date for their new, as-of-yet untitled album will be March 22, 2011. Back in November, Rock Edition reported that the recording of the album had been completed. Based on frontman Julian Casablancas’ comments at that time, the band has presumably spent the last couple of months mixing the record.
On January 10, 2011, Direct Current reported that the date was listed on an internal label release schedule from RCA Records. While there is no mention of it on their official site, bassist Nikolai Fraiture recently posted a comment on his Facebook page which said “You read right… March 22nd!!”
Fraiture was also recently interviewed on Zane Lowe’s BBC radio show, and said “Sonically, I feel it’s the album which should have been made between ‘Room On Fire’ and ‘First Impressions Of Earth.’”
The first single from the new 10-track album is expected in February.
The Strokes have also announced several tour dates for 2011, with a note that there are more to come. The dates announced so far are as follows:
