Primus to Set Loose New Album in September

Primus have announced that they will be releasing a new album on September 13. The experimental rock act’s first studio release since 1999’s ‘Antipop,’ ‘Green Naugahyde’ features the lineup of frontman/bassist Les Claypool, guitarist Larry LaLonde, and returning drummer Jay Lane, who was briefly in the band in 1988 and appeared in Sausage (a 1994 reunion of the 1988 Primus lineup). Claypool produced and engineered the record at his Northern California studio, Rancho Relaxo.

The album marks Lane’s first studio recording with the band. Speaking of the drummer’s contribution to ‘Green Naugahyde,’ LaLonde said, “We recorded this album in the same way we always do but having Jay there made this a whole different experience… It definitely made it more collaborative and it made us excited about the album as we went along because we had so much fun in the process.”

Claypool went on to provide a first glimpse at the album’s sound: “If I were to look at all of our records, it seems like this is reminiscent of the early stuff. Obviously, with Jay there’s a newness to it, but because he left the band right before we recorded our first record, his approach has an eerie harkening to the old ‘Frizzle Fry’ days.”

Primus are currently wrapping up a US tour and will be making several appearances at festivals this summer. The band also plans to headline another tour in September in support of ‘Green Naugahyde.’
