Iggy Pop, Nymphs Drummer Alex Kirst Dies

Alex Kirst, former drummer of Nymphs and Iggy Pop’s The Trolls, passed away following a hit-and-run on January 13 in the California desert, reports Billboard.

Cathedral City police are reportedly looking for a white Chevrolet Tahoe or GMC Yukon. Sgt. Paul Herrera told Palm Springs newspaper The Desert Sun that there was no evidence to indicate the vehicle braked.

“I’m devastated. Just devastated. He was my big brother,” Whitey Kirst, his brother and a guitarist for Iggy Pop, told The Desert Sun. “From what I understand, he just went to the store to get a pack of cigarettes.”

Kirst played drums for glam rock act Nymphs in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band was signed to Geffen Records and released their one and only album, which was self-titled, in 1991. One year later, the group called it quits.

After Nymphs disbanded, Alex and his brother Whitey joined The Trolls and performed on the 2001 album ‘Beat ‘Em Up’ and the 2003 album ‘Skull Ring.’

Alex Kirst was 47 years old.
