Vegas Is North are an ambitious pop punk band from California. Not unlike early Cartel, the group’s songs are filled with doses of angst, heartache, and apathy. Their latest EP, ‘I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead,’ comes equipped with four straightforward tracks that should get your pulse racing. Before you rush over to iTunes, though, continue below to learn more about why they’re actually called Vegas Is North, and whether or not they regret picking the name.
Who came up with the band name?
Chris Mehrtash: I did back in high school when I was a wee lad.
Was there a selection process?
I used to get a lot of lyrics and sayings from bands I loved in high school, so there were a lot of stupid choices. [laughs]
Is there a particular meaning behind the name?
There is no particular meaning. It was my twist of a song by the band The Devil Wears Prada, “Texas Is South.” Vegas is actually east of us, but Vegas Is North sounds so much more appealing. Well, at least I think so. [laughs]
What’s the best name that you considered but rejected?
We were called Get Personal once. I guess that was one of the better choices of the rejects.
What’s the worst name that you considered using?
Oh my God. Probably has to be Murder Mystery Party. Sounds so cheesy, but I loved it back then!
Any regrets about the name you chose?
Just one: that Vegas is actually east of where we live.
