The Etiquette – What’s in a Name?

(Not pictured above: Tim McDonald and Kenneth Benson)

Oh you fancy, huh? The Etiquette from Dallas, TX is a five-piece group of handsome guys wanting to make you dance. With catchy beats and melodies and raps to make you break it down, The Etiquette chose a proper name to help establish a sophisticated image. Currently, the band has been working hard in the studio and just released their first single, “Hot Tonight.” Vocalist/guitarist Paul Wade took some time off from working on their upcoming release to tell us why The Etiquette chose to keep it classy.

Who came up with the band name?

Armando was the one who originally came up with the name. We were seeking a name that came off classy and bold. Plus, we are kind of attached to the letter E.

Was there a selection process?

Well, the process was simple: Armando brought the idea to me, and I was like, “Done!” I do not want to do that huge deal where no one agrees on a name forever. [laughs] At that point, it was only Armando and I in the group.

Is there a particular meaning behind the name?

The meaning comes from how we feel about our music. We like being classy and proper as often as we can, although we do have an edgy streak from our rock music roots.

What’s the best name that you considered but rejected?

The runner-up was The Empire because originally the group was going to be made up of members from our old band, Empire Holiday. We just wanted a fresh start and a different music style, so a name change was the first step.

What’s the worst name that you considered using?

That’s a tricky one. This goes back to question four. We were almost called Empire spelled with a “Y.” Glad we did not do that one. I have no idea what we were thinking. We are not as cool as bands like Korn, who have cool spellings and backwards letters in the name.

Any regrets about the name you chose?

Nope! We love the name The Etiquette. Totally feel this name represents us perfectly. Hope the name becomes well-known to the world.
